This month’s top news:
Agile Alliance® Joins Project Management Institute (PMI) - Agile Alliance, an NGO promoting Agile values and practices, has officially merged with PMI. So what does this mean for you as a PM professional? You will gain access to a wider range of Agile resources, practical tools, and learning opportunities from both PMI and Agile Alliance, which will help you manage projects more effectively across different approaches. This follows PMI's recent acquisitions of Cognilytica and Project Managers Without Borders. What’s next for PMI? Based on their performance in recent years, it could mean more members, higher-quality courses, and future acquisitions.
Research: High-Performing PMOs Are Critical in Driving Business Transformation - A PMI study found that high-performing PMOs are more likely to use tools like cloud solutions and AI. 80% of high-performing PMOs leverage technology for value creation. They also empower teams to choose the best approach—agile, predictive, hybrid, or tailored—based on project needs. Surprised? We’re not. These findings align perfectly with 2025's emerging project management trends.
InEight Collaborates with Project Control Academy - InEight and Project Control Academy are teaming up in a strategic partnership. Together, they’ll offer practical training, tech insights, and resources to help professionals stay on top of the latest tools and best practices. Even though InEight is a leader in construction project controls software, we believe this could benefit all interested in brushing up their knowledge in project controls.

📈Project Management Trends to look out for in 2025
1. Development of AI and Automation - In 2019 a Gartner study estimated that 80% of project management tasks will be eliminated by 2030 by AI. In 2024, we have seen an increasing number of tools incorporating AI to tackle repetitive tasks such as scheduling and reporting, enabling project managers to focus on strategy and decision-making. This trend is expected to continue in 2025, with even more tools leveraging the power of AI, such as Nifty, which launched Orbit AI at the end of 2024.
AI is not here to take your job in 2025; it’s here to make your life easier. Think of tools like ChatGPT as your assistant for repetitive tasks like creating reports, analyzing data, or drafting plans. This means you’ll have more time for what really matters: solving problems, helping your team, and making important decisions
2. AI literacy - PMs will not only need to use AI in their day-to-day tasks, but they will also lead and push AI in their projects. This is why there will be an emphasis on constant learning and advancing of skills in 2025, with AI literacy being at the forefront.
It’s no longer ‘the big new thing’. AI and data analytics are now a core part of the project profession. If you aren’t continuing to develop your knowledge and experience in 2025, others will be. And they will have an advantage over you, in career terms, in 2026. Learning more about AI is a no-brainer.
3. CSR and sustainability - This year brings an emphasis on sustainability, with more and more businesses and project managers incorporating sustainable practices into their projects. Organizations such as Green Project Management will play a crucial role in educating and assisting businesses in implementing eco-friendly initiatives, such as considering environmental impacts during the project initiation phase.
With sustainability gaining more attention from stakeholders, consumers, and even regulators, project managers are finding that integrating sustainable practices isn’t optional—it’s essential for future-proofing their work and ensuring the long-term success of their projects and organizations
4. PMOs take center stage - As the PMI report stated, the PMOs are crucial in driving business transformations. This means that PMOs are no longer seen as a simple administrative backbone of organizations, they will continue to drive innovation with a focus on strategic leadership.
Companies are realizing that projects don’t exist just to finish on time or under budget—they exist to help achieve big business goals. This means you’ll need to understand how your project fits into the company’s strategy
5. Emotional intelligence (EI) and soft skills - A 2024 study found a significant positive link between emotional intelligence and project success. Emotionally intelligent team members are more likely to strengthen interpersonal bonds, while a supportive organizational culture impacts the connection between team cohesion and project success. With the growing complexity of projects, increased numbers of diverse teams, focus on people-centric leadership, and continuous popularity of hybrid work, Emotional Intelligence continues to be a crucial part of project management in 2025. This means that skills like conflict resolution, stakeholder relationships, and team collaboration will become more valuable.
In today's dynamic business, cultural, generational, social, and geopolitical landscape, technical skills and industry knowledge are no longer sufficient for leaders to excel. In my years of not only leading a business but also working with other organizations, I have found that emotional intelligence is often a critical factor in leadership effectiveness, team performance, and overall organizational success
